For most, the month of September marked the beginning of fall, the start of a new school year, or the return of pumpkin-spiced everything - but for the beauty and fashion world, September is when designers, models, photographers, celebrities, content creators, and editors make their way to New York City, Milan, and Paris to indulge in all the burgeoning trends that will be making their way from the runway to the mainstream. For designers, the Spring/Summer 2023 fashion week is considered the perfect time to debut the newest pieces; but for makeup artists and creative directors alike, it’s the time to refresh on any trends growing old with new colors, application hacks, formulas, hairstyles, accessories, and more.

This fall, the LYS team scoured the internet and bustling streets of NYC to find the top 3 emerging beauty trends to dream about throughout the cold winter months. Here’s the need-to-know trends, plus tips on how to make the trend work for you:

Color is back
Contrary to the “all Black'' fashion looks often time associated with New Yorkers, this fashion month introduced a new affinity for color. During September, the streets of New York were filled with models, influencers, and celebrities rocking the boldest pieces, like Lowe sunglasses and Kate Spade bags, or vibrant glam. From street style with Jenee (@Highlowluxxe) to the runway with Tia Adeola, one thing is for certain…color is not only back, but here to stay.

Make it yours: Whether you love color, or stick to a neutral palette, this is an easy trend to experiment with during the warmer months. For the face, try different cream blushes to liven up the complexion and bring a youthful glow to the skin. For eyes, try all-over lid colors, like royal blue, kelly green, or pink paired with a nude glossy lip to make the look more wearable. For lips, take your pick from red, coral, and pink-toned lippies such as the ones from our LYS Speak Love Lip Treatment Oil Collection, or up the ante with more inventive colors, like Black, purple, and orange. To prep lips for all-day color, exfoliate lips using a gentle scrub, then apply the LYS Beauty Speak Love Hydrating Lip Oil Treatment to instantly eliminate the look and feel of dry, chapped lips.

Just wing it
A perfectly executed winged eyeliner is a makeup hack we’ve seen time and time again. And this fashion month was no exception. Making its way from the U.S. to Italy are bold, eye-catching liner looks that transform an everyday makeup look to something far more elevated. In the past two years, the complexion has taken center stage, so get ready to call attention back to the eyes with a sharp wing.

Make it yours: For full glam makeup lovers, use a gel or liquid eyeliner to emphasize your eyes natural shape, making them appear bigger and brighter. For the everyday naturalistas, use a dark brown eyeshadow with a slanted liner brush to create a subtle wing that takes your makeup look to the next level. After applying a wing, use a flat liner brush and Triple Fix Brightening Concealer to clean up the line for maximum precision.

Nailing designs

If nails have been an afterthought in your beauty regimen, things are about to change this spring/summer. Gone are the days of minimal, nude-toned freshly manicured nails and hello vibrant colors, artistic designs, and new shapes that draw the attention right to the nail bed. This season, designers stepped outside the box, bringing nail art into the shows to accessorize the look. Think of it as an extension to your handbag, lip color, sunglasses, and shoes.

Make it yours: dramatic nails come in all shapes and sizes, so experiment with styles that are authentic to you. From polka dots and strikes to metallics, hooks, and beads, there was no shortage of nailspo this fashion month. And just as fashion trends lean into the power of monochromatic looks, so can nails. Try colors that complement your favorite blush and lip colors for a head-to-toe look that’s both colorful and cohesive. Get started with your own pick of the Higher Standards Satin Matte Cream Blush that now comes in nine varying shades.
